Learning Together

Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for school and home to work together. These may include:

  • Sharing of Learning events
  • Workshops, where there are opportunities to learn more about teaching strategies in English and Maths
  • Maths and Reading Breakfasts at the start of the school day
  • Friends of the Meadows parent group events and activities
  • Fundraising events.

Below, you will find some examples of these opportunities, and information about home/school links that may be useful to you.

Parents Do Maths and Parents Do Reading!

During the school year, we provide parents and carers with an opportunity to learn alongside their children! A typical 'Parents Do...' session includes a chance for the adults to work with the subject lead teacher in order to learn a specific concept being taught in class, and then a short time in class working on this with their children. Why not come and join us next time?

Mums and Maths

Working together as families, we have enjoyed some fun experiences in practising our mathematical skills!

Fun with Phonics

Having fun with sounds helps us to become more confident in speaking and reading. We hold regular workshops to support our children's development in reading.

Sharing Events

After each 'Big Picture' learning theme, the children have an opportunity to share their experiences with an audience. Painting with Parents was a great success!

Working Together

Access to School Records

The school provides parents with a written report of progress at the end of each academic year. Parents will be given the opportunity to consult with the class teacher about any concerns regarding the report. All parents are entitled to access to their child’s educational record, including ongoing assessment data held by their class teacher. These are discussed at consultation evenings.

Parents' Consultation Evenings

Parents will be given the opportunity to meet with their child’s class teacher in the autumn term to talk about how they have settled into the new school year and address any highlighted needs. In the spring term a more formal open evening is held to discuss progress. Formal reports are written during the summer term and there is an opportunity to make an appointment with the class teacher if you wish to discuss these further.

There will be other occasions when parents wish to contact the class teacher and head teacher. This is encouraged at every opportunity, but because The Meadows is a very busy and active school, it is sensible to make an appointment. We will, of course, see you as soon as possible.
