English as an Additional Language

At The Meadows, our languages are English, Polish, Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Arabic, Romanian, Chinese Mandarin, Malayalam, Tamil, Russian and Kurdish. We warmly welcome all families and children for whom English is an additional language (EAL).

Working together in families helps us to make progress and to be part of the school community. We have enjoyed opportunities to get to know each other and introduce our cultures.

We have shared rhymes and stories, created crafts, shared books, written postcards and shared traditional foods. We look forward to many more opportunities to work together.

We work with the Ethnic Minority and Traveller Education Team (EMTET), which supports children from minority backgrounds. Their aims are to:

  • help children to access appropriate education
  • promote different cultures
  • challenge racism and discrimnination.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
