Years 1/2 - Our Autumn 2018 Big Picture question:

Was it a hassle to live in a castle?

Welcome to Years 1 and 2! Our class names are Mice (Y1), Foxes (Y1), Deer (Y2) and Badgers (Y2). Our learning always starts with a big question, and we will be studying local history by finding out about Lincoln Castle. We will also be visiting castles from fairy tales. We are planning some interesting, memorable experiences. We will then conclude our term's learning with an opportunity to share our findings with an audience.

Autumn is our 'Discovery' term. Historical skills and understanding are our starting points, and other subjects link to our theme wherever possible. Our Knowledge Organisers, which you can access below, give an overview of the specific curriculum content children will cover this term.

Enquiry-Based Learning

We start much of our learning with enquiry questions, and we work together to solve problems and find answers. We enjoy finding out about the world around us. Here, you can see some photographs of our autumn walk, and some of the activities we have been involved in.

Let's find out about castles!

We have visited Lincoln Castle to find out just what it would have been like to live and work there. We enjoyed making shields and practising our archery skills. We found that living inside a castle keep was not always a comfortable place to be! However, we did enjoy a banquet in the great hall!
